Within the last year, Australia has been hit with severe drought, unprecedented bushfires, massive loss of flora and fauna, toxic smoke, storms and floods.  We’ve been aware of these events unfolding but haven’t experienced anything like this before.

Many of us awoke to the scope of these climate and ecological issues, experience a huge amount of grief, anger, frustration, and despair. At other times we may experience denial, distract ourselves, feel numb or transition to a place of acceptance or equanimity.

Despite our response, to not risk triggering others (or ourselves), many of us rarely get a chance to articulate these emotions and share them. These circles provide a supportive space to be witnessed, heard, and learn from others.

Sharing in circles in community or ceremonial space is as ancient as human language. Amongst first nations peoples throughout the world, such circles are known as yarning circles or talking circles; a talking stick or stone being used to facilitate deeper listening and uninterrupted speaking.

In religious circles, they can manifest as speaking from silence (Quakers), house groups (Christian) or chapter meetings (Buddhist), where there is a definite common context.

However, within our modern urbanised society, sharing circles facilitating deeper communication are seldom seen.

The Narara ecovillage community, in line with its values, recognises we are in a climate and ecological emergency and wishes to provide a supportive space for all

These circles can help us develop fresh perspectives, strengthen our resilience and help build community connection. Come and join us at the next Open Day.
