This information is for plumbing and irrigation contractors engaged to work at NEV. It is important that it is read and understood prior to commencing work.
With our Aquacell MBR system, wastewater is collected, treated and re-used for any combination of: irrigation, toilet flushing and laundry applications.
The treatment plant is maintained and operated under contract by Aquacell Pty Ltd and we make sure all wastewater is treated to a high standard that makes it safe for its intended use. All our systems have built-in monitoring systems and our expert technicians also keep an eye on things remotely.
However, it should be noted that wastewater is NOT suitable for drinking purposes. Contact us for specific information regarding a particular site running one of our systems.
Where is the wastewater treated in our systems?
Water is treated within the self-contained Aquacell MBR unit on-site and distributed from there. Our water recycling plants use a multi-stage process including biological treatment, membrane filtration, and multiple stages of disinfection.
What precautions are in place to protect the health of workers on-site?
The NEV site has a dual pipe system, which means the recycled water is transported around the site in a separate (purple coloured) pipe system to the drinking water (‘mains water’).
As the recycled water is completely isolated from the mains water supply, it’s very unlikely you will ever come into contact with recycled water.
Our systems use state-of-the-art technology and innovative measures to protect workers and save precious water. This project is designed to fully comply with relevant guidelines and include automatic preventive corrective actions and operation to rigorous protocols such as:
- remote surveillance
- ongoing sampling and analysis of the water, and
- auditing of the scheme for compliance.
When you’re working with an Aquacell system you can be sure every measure is taken to keep you safe.
Instructions for plumbing contractors
You can help by following the guidelines below, which will keep our water recycling systems running smoothly.
Take notice of any signs on-site and follow instructions to keep you and workmates safe.
Don’t drink the recycled water, it is non-potable.
Don’t put any of these materials down the drain:
- Bulk detergents
- Pat care products
- Silicon or silicon based products
- Paint or paint thinners
- High-foaming degreasers
- Draino or caustic soda
Our recycled water distribution and reticulation systems are designed and constructed in accordance with:
the relevant codes for:
- public health
- environmental discharge
- the National Plumbing and Drainage Code, and
- the relevant local Recycled Water Plumbing Guidelines.
All recycled water pipe installations and markings are in accordance with the relevant codes and guidelines.
You should contact Aquacell, and be familiar with these codes and guidelines before commencing work on an Aquacell site.
Under no circumstances is there to be a cross-connection between the recycled water system and the mains drinking water service. You must ensure any alterations to plumbing systems, especially the recycled water system, are recorded with the reticulation scheme operator and are in accordance with relevant codes and guidelines.
