Narara Ecovillage on ABC Central Coast chatting about Electric Vehicles

admin Sustainability

ABC Central Coast reached out to the Ecovillage to ask about EVs, their benefits and challenges regarding charging. Member John Shiel spoke with Caroline about these questions and more. One big concern was the lack of charging stations on the Central Coast.

John shared some of the latest updates:

  • 30 charging locations on the Central Coast 2 maps to find them,
  • bi-directional charging is coming next month as the game-changer replacing home batteries,
  • 4 affordable EVs now under $40k,
  • prepare for fast chargers by downloading apps in advance, but they can be costly while giving 300km/hour, but you can get a full charge overnight at home
  • NSW Transport grants (both NEV 3 wins plus more still open), including Destination Charging Grants open till August
  • a recent ARENA $1m grant that may see EV owners get rebates of over $1k per year by allowing EVs and home appliances to connect to the spot market – a big help to the electricity grid.
